You are in:
Solar Heating → Solar Sun Ring
Solar Sun Rings for designed with three things in mind, safety, durability and solar efficiency but primarily safety. A solid covering of a bubble wrap type of pool cover has been the root of numerous drowning by pets and people. The Solar Sun Ring is a 5 foot diameter disk made of vinyl. A one-size-fits-all type of scenario. So you end up covering your pool with multiple Solar Sun Rings. Since they are round there is space in between the Solar Sun Rings used to cover your pool so if someone were to accidentally fall in, they could easily get out because they are not fighting a solid surface.
Durability was another key concern with designing the Solar Sun Ring. Polyethylene plastic, which was immediately rejected because of it’s intolerance to direct sunlight. Instead, high quality ultra violet resistant vinyl (polyvinyl chloride) was used. Vinyl will normally outlast polyethylene 3 to 1. Something else to mention is the vinyl used to manufacture Solar Sun Rings is not destroyed by pH fluctuation, higher than normal chlorine concentration or salt water systems and, vinyl is easily repaired if punctured.
Solar Efficiency – The vinyl used to manufacture Solar Sun Rings allows for greater solar efficiency with greater nighttime insulation due to greater captive air thickness. The effect is that Solar Sun Rings with 70% to 80% coverage outperform bubble pack covers with 100% coverage. Solar Sun Rings with 70% to 80% coverage (remember the spaces in between the disks), outperform bubble pack covers that offer 100% coverage.
Something else to think about is that a pool cover that blocks out 100% of the sun’s rays, also promotes algae growth. One thing to mention here is because of the Solar Sun Rings ability to capture heat, when they are removed from the pool, they need to be stored out of the direct sunlight to prevent them from overheating.
